Step 1 of the Uruguay Cast & Blast - DORADO FISHING
The city for arrival for a Uruguay Cast and Blast is Montevideo. The airport code is MVD and whether you are departing the USA, Europe, or other South American city - Montevideo is the main airport and the Cast and Blast starting point.
The best flight to take is the direct flight that arrives at 9 AM. This gives the group time to get some coffee - relax before taking the short flight to Salto, Uruguay. Salto is the city where the dorado fishing takes place.
Known as the 2nd largest city - this city is located in northern Uruguay and shares the major waterway with Argentina. The Uruguay River is a large river and this is the site of La Zona - the area near the dam where the trophy sized golden dorado find home.
The La Zona area is limited to a few and Los Gauchos is proud to one of the "few" that has access to La Zona for our clients. La Zona is open for Golden Dorado fishing on Friday - Saturday - Sunday. The rate is more - but well worth it once you see that first active dorado grab your lure and line.
The other part of the fishing day takes place out of La Zona and yes, you will enjoy catching the dorado and large ones too. Our guides keep the boats to 2 anglers per boat and 2 professional fishing guides.
After fishing in Salto and staying at one of the resorts, you will be transferred by car (van) to Mercedes, Uruguay and the high volume dove shooting.
Estancia Mercedes is one the most luxurious lodges and the dove hunting is about 15 minutes from the front door. During the Upland Hunting Season, one can enjoy Perdiz hunting at Estancia Mercedes.
Dove hunting is available anytime of year and the dove volume is consistently high during every season. So, take advantage of the cool weather during May - June or July and the warm temperatures during January - February at Estancia Mercedes.
Los Gauchos Outfitters includes the hunting and fishing equipment with the Cast and Blast trips. The only equipment not included is fly-fishing equipment and shotgun other than a 20 gauge.
